Proto-Teck was formed in 1989 by master model builder Don Conard. Proto-Teck, based in San Rafael, California, specializes in creating high-accuracy architectural scale models, product models, prototypes, photographic models, and models for special effects.

Don Conard graduated from the University of Kansas in 1960 with a B.S. in architecture and engineering.  Don practiced architecture in Kansas, and then moved to California in 1962. He worked with several architectural firms in San Francisco until 1968, when he opened Don Conard Mobiles, a kinetic sculpture gallery in Ghirardelli Square. At the gallery, Don produced and sold his own kinetic art, as well as the work of other sculptors. He also founded Kinetic Objects, Inc., where he designed, developed and manufactured art objects.

After closing Don Conard Mobiles and Kinetic Objects Inc. in 1985, Don returned to architecture and found tremendous satisfaction in creating scale models.  As word spead of Don's incredible talent and demand increased, Proto-Teck was born.
